I have been asked what my top 5 favourite films are of all time.
This is so hard as I love different films for different reasons.
So after much deliberation I have tried to think of different film genre and have chosen my top five which are:-
Braveheart
This has to be my number one film of all time!
For those unfortunate enough not to have watched it, it is an epic historical drama war film and is directed by and starring Mel Gibson - at his best!
Set in the 13th century tells the story of the how a young 'william wallace' survives an attack by the Longshanks, goes away and was educated, and returns when he is older to marry
his childhood sweetheart, who is later executed!
Wallace then rebels against the English and becomes a legend, leading an army to victory ....
I am not going to ruin it for it other than by saying that this film is very intense and received fantastic reviews.
and won several academy awards.
The Blues Brothers
Thinking of musicals and comedy then the Blues Brothers always comes to mind.
The music is fabulous and this is a real 'feel good' movie and easy to watch and enjoy.
I have watched this several times over, and even though it is now perhaps a little 'dated' it is still funny.
It is basically about John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd (Jake and Elwood) - After being released from Prison they are sent on a 'mission from god' to raise funds for the boarding school
where they were bought up.
The film contains some great car chases! Great Music, Hilarious Sketches
Pretty Woman
OK , I know its a bit of a girly film but so easy to sit and watch and chill out to
Must of us ladies dream of a Richard Gere to sweep us off our feet you know!
So the plot is basically handsome rich man meets hooker and helps to transform her into lovely lady.
A few twists and turns and laughs and tears along the way but Richard Gere and Julia Roberts are great together
Titanic
If you have not heard of this then HELLO - where have you been?
The film of Titanic, is another Epic and not a quick film but great to sit and unwind to.
I think my family have watched it so many times that they know all the words.
Leonardo Di Caprio shot to fame after this film - and Kate Winslet was amazing!
The Notebook
For all you people out there that claim not to cry, or just like a good weepy
then this is the one for you - The Queen of Weepies!
A story of lovely couple played by James Garner and Gena Rowlands and it is based around 'Gena' having Alzeimers and the reading of a notebook
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams play the young couple and the story is of a love affair tragically halted by the war, and reuniting at a later date.
If you have not seen this then I will not spoil it for you but tissues at the ready please!
Our new film of the week is snowtown! Feel free to share your thoughts.
When 16-year-old Jamie is introduced to a charismatic man, a friendship begins. As the relationship grows so do Jamie's suspicions, until he finds his world threatened by both his loyalty for, and fear of, his newfound father figure, John Bunting: Australia's most notorious serial killer.
Starring Lucas Pittaway and Daniel Henshall and directed by Justin Kurzel (BLUE TONGUE). SNOWTOWN is the first feature film to be produced by Warp Films Australia and marks the arrival of a major filmmaking talent. He has made a film as starkly confronting as it is beautifully controlled with impeccable performances throughout.
